There is only one Keano
So I am going to try to articulate the best I can Keane's birth story. So bare with me please!
Around 3:00 p.m. I started to feel a little crampy, like I was going to get my period on Wednesday, the 9th. We went to dinner at a friends house and the feeling wasn't really going away. We got home, put Rooney to bed and I was still feeling a little weird so I went to bed myself. That alone I should have known! I haven't been to bed early in months! So anyway, around 1:30 a.m. Rooney woke up and Sloan was helping her back to sleep when I just told him to bring her to our bed and they can sleep there because I needed to move around. I cleaned Rooney's room, packed her over night bag and just dinked around the house! NESTING! BURST OF ENERGY! But I was not convinced I was in early labor! I then moved to the couch and it is 3:00 a.m. I watched a little t.v. and then tried to get some sleep. The contractions woke me up around 5:30 a.m. and I then began to walk around and clean some more. Still not convinced! At 6:30 a.m. I called my sister, Katie to tell her that I might be in labor but it will be awhile before the baby comes so just go to school and I will keep her posted. I needed to give her a heads up early so she could get a sub.
Finally at 7:30 I woke Sloan up and said "we need to make a decision about what we are going to do with Rooney because I think I am in labor." Again, still not really convinced about the whole labor thing. My contractions were 5 minutes apart and lasting only 20-30 seconds and not that painful, just uncomfortable. I also know that labor can start and stop many times before it is go time. O.k. Sloan is still trying to wake up, he goes to the bathroom and is trying to comprehend what I just said. His first question is if I called, Sally, my midwife. I told him no that I was going to wait til 8:00, I didn't want to bug her and wake her up to early. I know what was I thinking? Still not convinced! But let me tell you.... as soon as I got off the phone with Sally and she asked me a ton of question and my answers were yes to all of them. I finally realized that it was go time and this is labor. My contractions came long and hard and with a vengeance! We figured out what we were going to do with Rooney, let me remind you we thought I was going to be induced this week and we wouldn't have to make a plan B. O.k. Rooney was going to Laura's house, Cara was going to watch Rooney and Addie. Laura was going to meet us at the hospital to help with labor and then my sister was going to pick up Rooney at 12:30 from Cara. We left for the hospital at 8:40 and I could hear Rooney in the back seat having her own contractions the same time I was! To Cute! When we arrived at the hospital I could barely walk and I thought I wasn't going to make it. We finally made it to my room, the same room I delivered Rooney in, at 9:15. He then had to meet Laura to give Rooney to her so she could take her back to her house to meet Cara. During that time the nurse checked me and I was 5 cm and the contractions were coming every 2 minutes. I finally asked for an epidural at 10:00. I thought thank God some relief! Now I can sleep watch a little t.v. and wait to dilate. When Sally got there at 10:40 I was 8 1/2 cm. She said that I was about to have a baby and she changed her clothes to deliver! Are you kidding me? I want to sleep first! Laura made it some time around then and was there to help me push. At 11:00 I was 10 cm and ready to push. 2 contractions and 4 pushes, Keane Mattilyn was welcomed into the world at 11:04 a.m.

Her name came from.........
Keane Mattilyn is a name that we had the minute we found out we were pregnant. We got Keane from a Manchester United player, Roy Keane. He retired a few years back but he was a very successful player for that club. Mattilyn is after, Matt. I was Matt's nanny for years and I met my husband through him. Sloan was his basketball coach in the 4th-8th grade. Matt and his parents are very important to us and they are like family. So there you have it!
